Brevort, Michigan, 1966

Here I am in the foreground on the shore of Lake Michigan during a family vacation and what was the start of a great affection for beaches: Atlantic, Pacific or Great Lakes. Just get me to the beach…where I’m more of a beachcomber than a sun-worshiper.

I am a native Madisonian and have been fortunate to play a role in the community I love through Isthmus, the alt-weekly, where I started as a freelancer with a book review. Prior to coming on staff as an editor, I was a developmental editor of college psychology textbooks at Brown & Benchmark (now absorbed into McGraw-Hill) and before that, I taught composition and American literature at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

I live on the north side of Madison with my husband and our dog, Stella. Fortunately we’re close to a couple of sandy stretches of shore on Lake Mendota… so I can actually walk to the beach from my house.
